Sharing the Story of The Stripey Caterpillar
The Stripey Caterpillar is more than a business. It’s a movement dedicated to inspiring people to connect with nature and take action for butterfly conservation. Co-founded by 14-year-old Milly and her 12-year-old sister Gracie-Mae, this youth-led initiative has already made an impact, and it's just getting started!
We welcome opportunities to share our story, collaborate with media, and work with like-minded organizations.
The Northern Advocate Story
We were thrilled to be featured in The Northern Advocate on 22nd September 2025! The article shares our story, how a simple idea grew into a youth-led business inspiring others to connect with nature, creativity, and conservation and how Milly won the Presence Award at teh YES Trade Fair 2025.
Jen and the Dahlia Kids Documentary
As part of the six-part documentary series on Home Education in New Zealand, our hands-on, learn-by-doing approach was showcased in Episode 1 through the setup and operation of our Pick-Your-Own dahlia farm, Green Footed Kiwi.
Being part of this project was an incredible experience. It fueled our passion for learning, sparked new ideas, and inspired us to keep exploring the world around us.
Following our adventures setting up Green Footed Kiwi, we have branched out to develop The Stripey Caterpillar. An exciting project adding monarch butterflies and hands-on experiences to our dahlias.
New Zealand Gardener Magazine
Our journey with Green Footed Kiwi was also featured in a 17-page spread in NZ Gardener magazine!
Lottie, the photographer, visited just before Cyclone Gabrielle, capturing the beauty of our dahlia farm and the passion behind what we do.
It was an incredible experience to share our story with gardeners across New Zealand and inspire others to grow, explore, and connect with nature
